ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has convened a crucial meeting today (Wednesday) on the issue of disqualification if dissident members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The sources privy to the development said that the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja has approached SC to receive a copy of the decision announced by the apex court on Tuesday in regards to the interpretation of Article 63-A of the Constitution.
The meeting has been called to decide on the disqualification of the dissident members of the Punjab Assembly in light of the SC’s verdict.

Notably, the SC of Pakistan on Tuesday ruled that the defector’s vote will not be counted in the voting with a majority of 3-2.
The unanimous verdict was given by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan and Justice Muneeb Akhtar.
The verdict was announced over the reference filed by former Attorney General Khalid Javed Khan on behalf of President Arif Alvi for the life-term disqualification of deviant members after many of the PTI MNAs decided to vote in favour of a no-confidence motion against former PM Imran Khan.
