Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to meet US counterpart today

ISLAMABAD: In a very first diplomatic meeting after the new government sworned in, Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will meet US Secreatry of State Antony Blinken in New York today, diplomtic sources informed Bol News on Wednesday.

On the sidelines of Global Food Security Conference, bilateral relations between Islamabad-Washington DC is expected to be discussed. Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will be more focused on bilateral trade relations and increasing Pakistani export volume.

Sources said that the Russian aggression in Ukraine will be discussed, along with the ongoing Afghan crisis and regional security situation in the wake of it.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will speak at the conference, representing Pakistan’s voice on the subject matter.

The invitation for the conference was given by Blinkenin in his maiden telephone call to the newly appointed FM, the Foreign Office said. During the telephonic conversation, Secretary Blinken congratulated his Pakistani counterpart on the assumption of his office and expressed the desire to continue strengthening the mutually beneficial Pakistan-US bilateral relationship.

Bilawal’s US visit would be the first high-level interaction between the two countries amid the PTI’s anti-American narrative. Former prime minister Imran Khan has blamed Washington for toppling his government. The US has denied the allegations.

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will meet with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and President of the United Nations General Assembly Abdullah Shahid, and hold bilateral discussions with his counterparts during his visit.
