Monika Liu supports Ukraine with a Eurovision song collaboration

Monika Liu, Lithuania’s Eurovision Song Contest entry this year, used music to demonstrate her support for Ukraine and its Eurovision finalist, Kalush Orchestra.

She not only waved the Ukrainian flag during the live semi-final and final shows, but she also took part in a musical solidarity initiative in Vilnius, Lithuania’s capital, in which the country’s most famous musicians, soloists from the National Opera and Ballet Theatre, and a children’s choir expressed their support for Ukraine during and after the Eurovision Song Contest.

Monika Liu and other Lithuanian performers performed Stefania, Ukraine’s Eurovision entry song, in a new video shot on the streets of Vilnius.

The effort emphasized Vilnius’ unwavering support for Ukraine since the conflict began on February 24th, and expressed solidarity with war refugees.

The remix of the Ukrainian Eurovision success included a new stanza in addition to the original lyrics, which were translated into English: “Hearts of Vilnius / Burn yellow and blue / Long as we are free / We will stay by you.”

According to the remake’s authors, this has been the feeling in the capital and throughout the country throughout the invasion of Ukraine.
