Petrol price in Pakistan to remain unchanged in May: Miftah Ismail

Finance Minister Miftah Ismail on Sunday announced that there will be no change in the petrol price in Pakistan in May.

Addressing a presser in Islamabad, the finance minister asked the people to stop forming queues at the petrol pumps in hot weather fearing that the rates could go up.

“Rising petrol prices causes a surge in food prices, which is the core of inflation and affects a common man directly,” he said.

The minister added that the prime minister wanted to provide relief to already inflation-hit citizens.

He said that the petrol price in Pakistan will be adjusted in the future according to the changing circumstances.

Miftah Ismail said if the international oil prices are not going to reduce, the government will be compelled to increase the rates of petroleum products.

He said Imran Khan laid landmines, and they are bearing the brunt of it.

Miftah Ismail said he is going to hold dialogue with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the revival of the bailout package for Pakistan.

He also claimed that the former finance minister Shaukat Tarin had agreed with the IMF for rolling back subsidy on the petroleum products in phases.

He claimed that the friend countries including Saudi Arabia had assured economic cooperation and talks were underway for the extension of the deposited period.

Miftah Ismail said agriculture is an important part of the national economy and the government would extend full cooperation for its development.

He said that due to the wrong policies of the previous government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), there was imbalance between imports and exports. He that the pace by which the exports were increasing was half the pace compared to rise in imports.
