NA speaker says 30-member panel to ponder electoral reforms

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly (NA) Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Tuesday said a 30-member committee comprising MNAs and Senators will be constituted for electoral reforms.

While talking to the media,  he said a parliamentary committee comprising 20 MNAs and 10 Senators will be constituted soon for necessary electoral reforms leading to transparent elections.

He said they have written letters to all parliamentary leaders including the former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan to nominate the members.

The speaker said the process for electoral reforms will get underway during the budget session and the decision regarding the elections will be taken afterward.

PTI resignations

On resignations of the PTI lawmakers from the lower house, Ashraf said the verification process is underway. The speaker reiterated that the resignation should be handwritten by the resignee.

He said the PTI lawmakers should appear before him for verification of their resignations.

He added they have sent the letters to every PTI lawmaker including Imran Khan for verification of the document.

Regarding the opposition leader of the NA, the speaker said the member with the maximum votes will take the office.
