Halyna Hutchins was a cinematographer from Ukraine who worked on over 30 films, short films, and TV shows, including Archenemy, Darlin’, and Blindfire. On October 21, 2021, she was tragically shot on the set of the film Rust during a shooting incident.
The Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office disclosed a plethora of information relating to the Rust shooting investigation earlier this week, including body cam footage depicting cinematographer Halyna Hutchins‘ dying moments. Her family is now appealing for the video to be taken down, claiming that the trauma caused by its distribution is “irreparable.”
“Your office trampled on the constitutional rights of the Hutchins.”
The letter read, “Without any discussion, your office unilaterally determined that Mr. Hutchins would be given access to the materials to review early in the morning on Monday, April 25 before being released to the public later in the afternoon giving him less than a business day to review the materials.”
“While the damage of publishing the video is irreparable, taking down the video will end your office’s complicity in causing further harm,”
“I think the main point is that it was a public record request that we are required to release the information, but it was also an attempt to be transparent in the investigation,” he said interview.
