Oasis celebrity Paul ‘Bonehead’ Arthurs has revealed that he has been diagnosed with tonsil cancer.
The band’s rhythm guitarist and co-founder has announced that he would take a break from performing while he receives therapy.
Paul, 56, has told fans that his cancer is curable and that he will keep them informed of his progress.
Paul said, “Just to let you all know I’m going to be taking a break from playing for a while. I have been diagnosed with tonsil cancer.
“But the good news is it’s treatable and I will be starting a course of treatment soon. I will keep you posted how it is going.”
He added, “I am gutted I am missing the gigs with Liam and the band.
“Have the best summer and enjoy the gigs if you’re going, I’ll see you soon xxx.”
Paul, along with brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher, Paul ‘Guigsy’ McGuigan, and Tony McCarroll, co-founded Oasis.
He occasionally performed on keyboards in addition to playing the guitar.
However, at the height of Oasis’ Brit Pop triumph in 1999, Paul left the band. Gem Archer took his place.
The band was in the middle of producing their fourth album, Standing on the Shoulders of Giants, when Paul announced his decision to spend more time with his family.
When he walked away, his two children, Lucy and Jude, were just four and one years old.
Noel Gallagher, meanwhile, quipped that Paul’s departure was “hardly McCartney leaving The Beatles.”
