Blinken and Austin will visit Ukraine on Sunday, according to Zelensky

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will visit Kyiv on Sunday, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

“I don’t believe it’s a secret that individuals from the United States are coming to us tomorrow, State Secretary Mr. Blinken and Defense Secretary (Lloyd Austin),” Zelensky stated during a news conference held in the Ukrainian capital’s subterranean subway station.

“We will expect the President of the United States to visit and talk to us when the security allows,” Zelensky added.
Last week, Zelensky expressed his desire for President Joe Biden to visit Ukraine.
“I believe he will,” Zelensky said, adding that the choice was Biden’s and would be based on the security situation.
Biden, who has previously shown interest in visiting Ukraine, said earlier this month that he was consulting with his staff to see if a senior member of his administration should travel there.

During a press briefing on Monday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki emphasised that Biden had no plans to visit Ukraine. “That hasn’t changed — our priority remains on assisting Ukraine, the Ukrainian government, and Ukrainian leaders with unprecedented security assistance,” Psaki said.
Psaki stated that if an administration official were to travel to Ukraine, the White House would not make that information public ahead of time due to security concerns.
Blinken and Austin’s prospective travel to Ukraine was not mentioned by the White House or the State Department on Saturday.

Biden stated on Thursday that the US will provide an additional $800 million in military aid to Ukraine as the Russian invasion enters its third month, signalling the start of a potentially violent new phase, according to US officials.
Heavy artillery and 144,000 rounds of ammunition are among the fresh arrivals.
Earlier last month, the US provided a similar-sized military aid package that included Mi-17 helicopters, Howitzer artillery, Switchblade drones, and protective gear.
