In the early days of their courtship, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry went to tremendous measures to keep their secret hidden.
But one of the tactics they took on a date to remain anonymous sticks out as particularly distinctive — and a little odd.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex feigned to go to the store the first time they met in his then-home town of London.

To avoid revealing their cover, they both wore minor disguises and appeared not to know each other while they were there.

“The first time Meghan and I met up for her to come and stay with me, we met up in a supermarket in London, pretending we didn’t know one other, messaging each other from the opposite side of the aisles,” Harry revealed on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast last year.

“There are people staring at me, giving me strange glances, and coming up to me and saying ‘hello.'”

“I texted her, asking whether this was the proper one, and she said, ‘no, you want parchment paper,’ and I was like, ‘where’s the parchment paper?!'”

“I was wearing a baseball cap and gazing down at the floor, attempting to blend in.” It’s astounding how much chewing gum there is; it’s a shambles!”

Since leaving the Royal Family, the Sussexes have paid back the £2.4 million in government funds used to rebuild their royal property, Frogmore Cottage, and have primarily relied on Princess Diana’s £10 million wealth.

Previously, Harry got an inheritance from the Queen Mother, which apparently included her diamonds.

In addition to his inheritance, Harry had allegedly earned between £36-38,000 per year while serving in the British Army Air Corps.

They also inked a podcast agreement for an estimated £18 million.
