‘Percy Jackson’ author confirms the number of episodes in season 1

Percy Jackson fans may delight in knowing a bit more about the upcoming fantasy series, as author Rick Riordan announced the episode count for the first of what might be many seasons on his blog, confirming that there would be eight segments.

“Script work is also coming along nicely. We have scripts for the first four episodes pretty much done, and are hard at work on the remaining four of season one.”

That quantity is consistent with the majority of Disney Plus’ original programming, with Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars series all running under 10 episodes, and shows like John Stamos’ Big Shots and the Mighty Ducks: Game Changers just reaching double digits.

Percy Jackson fans are ecstatic, with high expectations that it would fare better than the previous films, which were widely panned.

While the book series is beloved, and actor Logan Lerman remains popular, the feature films departed from the books, much to Riordan’s chagrin when he was kept out of the creation process, even admitting that he hasn’t watched them.

This time, Riordan will take an active part in adapting his novels to live-action, co-writing the pilot with Black Sails co-creator Jon Steinberg and serving as an executive producer.

Percy Jackson was greenlit for Disney Plus in January, and it’s intended to be more faithful to the books. There are five novels and two companion volumes in all, implying that the programme might possibly run for many seasons. There have been no casting announcements, but Riordan believes that the three primary leads will be revealed all at once.
