Elephants’ number one natural adversary is lions. They travel in groups and hunt in packs. While the lions guard the pride, the lionesses do the majority of the hunting for everyone. Lions are the only predators capable of killing an elephant, aside from humans. Even a complete pack of lions would have a difficult time hunting a young and weak elephant travelling with its herd.
A viral video shows a pride of lions waiting for an opportunity to grab a newborn elephant from its herd while the rest of the herd is distracted. The elephants were not in the mood to be hunted or to play games on that particular day.
Meanwhile, the elephant herd raced towards the ravenous lion pride, who retreated like scared cats. They’re not exactly the king of the jungle when they’re outmanned and outgunned, are they?
The video was uploaded on Instagram by the user ‘animalcoterie,’ who captioned it, “Wait for them.” Over 35,000 people have viewed it thus far.
