Amy Schumer pitched to bring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the Oscars

The Academy Awards in 2022 are anticipated by fans. For the first time in the show’s history, an all-female cast will host, including Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes, and Regina Hall. On a recent edition of The Drew Barrymore Show, the comedian discussed her plans for the much-anticipated night and laid out what fans may expect.

During the interview, Schumer expressed her desire to create a show that would allow viewers to escape their mundane lives. Through humour while also addressing real-world issues. That need to be addressed in today’s world.

“I think there is definitely pressure in one way to be like. ‘This is a vacation, let people forget we just want to have this night. ‘ But on the other hand, we have so many eyes and ears on this event,” she admitted.

“I believe it’s a terrific opportunity to at least comment on a handful of things,” Schumer continued. I’ve got a few jokes that kind of emphasise the current situation.” She went on to say that the world is in shambles and that there are just too many issues to address. Which requires a lot of thought on her side. One of her more bizarre ideas was to have Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy attend the ceremony electronically.

“I actually pitched, I wanted to find a way to have Zelenskyy satellite in or make a tape or whatever just because there are so many eyes on the Oscars,” she explained. Later revealing that her suggestion was rejected by the show’s producers.
