Microsoft to Unify Two OneNote Applications with Visual Refresh

Microsoft currently offers two versions of OneNote; one is that available on Windows Store, while the other comes bundled within Microsoft Office.

Now the tech giant is reportedly working on a unified version of the OneNote application with a visual refresh.

Microsoft is moving all the features and improvements in its Under Work-in-Progress OneNote for Windows 10 to the traditional desktop app.

The new changes will be gradually pushed over the next 12 months to the OneNote desktop app that installs as a part of Office.

The new app will have a new UI and some key features that are only limited to the Windows 10 version of OneNote.

However, it is still not clear which features will be incorporated in the new app, but Microsoft says, “we are working to ensure that all the most loved features will continue to be a part of OneNote.”

Current Windows 10 OneNote users will be notified to upgrade to the full desktop version by the second half of 2022. “Advances in Windows and Office will allow us to unify the two apps so that you’ll have the simplicity of a single OneNote app on Windows while enjoying the interface and features you’re already familiar with,” explains the OneNote team.

Microsoft will not be killing its OneNote for Windows 10 until the end of support in October 2025. But the company recommends the users move to the desktop app as soon as it is released.

These changes, however, will not affect the other OneNote versions for iOS, Android, and the web.
