SHCC issues alert to private hospitals amid flood risk

KARACHI: Amid concerns over possible flooding in Sindh, the Sindh Healthcare Commission (SHCC) has directed private hospitals and healthcare facilities in potentially affected areas to remain on high alert and ensure preventive preparedness.

In an official circular sent to private hospitals, the SHCC emphasized that all healthcare institutions must play an active role in safeguarding public health during any flood emergency.

The advisory instructed hospitals to: Protect healthcare facilities from floodwater, particularly emergency rooms (ERs), ICUs, and operation theatres (OTs) arrange backup power sources, including generators, to ensure uninterrupted medical services, ensure systems are in place for the safe and immediate transfer of patients in case of emergency and keep hospitals operational 24/7 with adequate staffing.Allocate dedicated beds for flood-affected patients in advance.

Maintain active surveillance against possible outbreaks of waterborne and vector-borne diseases, and coordinate closely with district health authorities for timely reporting of such cases.
