The spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives caused by the recent floods in Pakistan.
According to the statement, over 400 people have lost their lives and more than 1.5 million individuals have been affected by the devastating floods.
The spokesperson stated that millions are currently in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. Secretary-General Guterres commended the Pakistani authorities for managing the relocation of over one million people in Punjab in response to the crisis.
He also extended solidarity with the government and people of Pakistan, offering condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.
To support relief and recovery efforts, the UN has released $600,000 in emergency funding, the spokesperson confirmed.
