Damascus: Following several days of intense and deadly clashes, Israel and Syria have agreed to a ceasefire. The truce marks a significant step toward de-escalation in the region after a period of heightened violence.

U.S. Ambassador to Türkiye, Thomas Barrack, confirmed that the ceasefire was achieved with the support of Türkiye, Jordan, and other regional countries.

Ambassador Barrack urged all warring parties to lay down their arms and contribute to the rebuilding of Syria following the agreement.

At least 300 people were killed and hundreds injured in the communal riots in the majority area in Syria.

Israel targeted the headquarters of the Ministry of Defence in the Syrian capital Damascus three days ago and demanded the return of Syrian forces and other militant groups from the majority area.

Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met for a second time within 24 hours at the White House to discuss a potential ceasefire in Gaza.

The unscheduled talks, lasting just over an hour with no media access, occurred amidst ongoing violence, with Israeli forces reportedly killing at least 95 Palestinians in Gaza.

This follow-up meeting came after their previous lengthy discussion during a dinner at the White House on Monday, which marked Netanyahu’s third visit to the U.S. since President Trump’s inauguration on January 20.
