Popular instant messaging app WhatsApp is testing a unique and exciting new feature aimed at expanding the reach of user status updates.

According to reports, WhatsApp is working on a feature that will allow users to mention specific groups directly in their status updates. Currently, the mention option is limited to individual contacts only—users can tag saved contacts in their status stories, but there is no way to include entire groups.

Platforms that track WhatsApp updates have confirmed that this feature is currently in limited beta testing. However, it is expected to roll out to a wider audience in the coming months.

Once available, the feature will send a notification to all members of a group when that group is mentioned in a user’s status. Interestingly, each group member will receive an individual notification and will be able to view and share the status themselves.

Another noteworthy aspect of this update is that it will notify even those group members who may have been blocked by the person posting the status, provided they are part of the mentioned group. This means blocked contacts can still see your status via group mentions.

As of now, the feature is accessible only to select users, and WhatsApp has not yet announced an official launch date. More details are expected as the company progresses with wider testing.
