KARACHI: The grieving family of Pakistani actress and model Humaira Asghar has agreed to receive her body and is set to arrive in Karachi shortly.
Humaira, who rose to fame as a contestant on Pakistan’s largest reality show, had also made her mark in both modeling and acting.
The tragic discovery of her unrecognizable body on July 8 from an apartment in Defence Phase 8, Karachi, has shocked the entertainment industry and raised serious questions about her final days.
According to SSP South Mahzoor Ali, Humaira had been living alone in the apartment for the past seven years, having rented it in 2018. She reportedly stopped paying rent in 2024, prompting the owner to take the matter to court. Police sources confirm that she had become socially isolated, and the circumstances of her death remain unclear.
According to SSP South Mehzoor Ali, Humaira had been living alone in the flat for seven years, having rented it in 2018. She hadn’t paid rent since 2024, prompting the landlord to seek legal recourse. The grim discovery was made when court bailiffs, attempting to serve a notice, forced open the door after receiving no response.
The body was found in an advanced state of decomposition, with insects present, and Humaira was clad in a pink t-shirt and jeans. Initially, police suspected the body was 2 weeks to a month old, but SSP South Mehzoor Ali now indicates it might be over six months old, based on ongoing investigations and chemical samples from Jinnah Hospital.
Initially, Humaira’s father refused to claim the body, stating he had severed ties with her two years prior and police could do as they wished. However, SSP South later reported that the father requested time to reconsider. This led to an outpouring of support from Sonya Hussyn and other showbiz personalities, who offered to bear the full responsibility for her funeral arrangements.
Amidst widespread social media criticism of her parents’ initial refusal, a new development has emerged. While her father and brother still decline, Humaira’s sister and brother-in-law have contacted police authorities and are expected to arrive in Karachi from Lahore on July 10 to officially receive Humaira Asghar’s remains.
