OpenAI has introduced its latest artificial intelligence (AI) reasoning model, o3-mini, integrating it into ChatGPT and its API services.
The launch of o3-mini comes amid rising competition from DeepSeek, a Chinese AI model gaining industry recognition for its performance.
Initially previewed during OpenAI’s 12 Days of Ship-mas event in December 2024, o3-mini is designed to enhance response speed and accuracy, particularly in mathematics, coding, and science.
Key Features of o3-mini:
24% Faster Responses – OpenAI claims o3-mini is 24% faster than its predecessor o1-mini, while maintaining similar performance.
Step-by-Step Explanations – Instead of just giving answers, the model provides detailed reasoning in its responses.
Developer Access – Available via OpenAI’s Chat Completions API, Assistants API, and Batch API for seamless integration.
Access for Paid and Free Users
Paid Users can opt for o3-mini-high, which delivers more intelligent responses but with slightly longer processing times. It is available via the ChatGPT dropdown menu.
Free Users can access o3-mini by selecting the “Reason” button in the chat bar, with similar rate limits as GPT-4.
Additionally, Microsoft has announced that o3-mini will be available through Azure OpenAI Service, GitHub Copilot, and GitHub models.
