PM reaffirms commitment to Polio eradication, praises provincial efforts

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eradicating polio and commended the provincial administrations for their timely identification of polio cases and the recent decline in their numbers.

Chairing a review meeting on the anti-polio campaign, the Prime Minister noted that the downward trend in polio cases since September 2024 reflects the success of the ongoing campaign. He attributed the reduction in polio cases across all provinces to the tireless efforts of provincial administrations.

Prime Minister Sharif emphasized that the complete eradication of polio could only be achieved through collaboration between the federal and provincial governments.

The meeting provided updates on the progress of the anti-polio campaign, which continues to make strong progress across the provinces. It was reported that at the start of 2025, there was a clear reduction in polio cases in affected districts of Balochistan, Sindh, and northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The campaign’s progress is being monitored in real-time through an IT dashboard, ensuring continuous oversight of all aspects.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Bharath, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator on National Health Services, Senator Ayesha Raza Farooq, and senior officials from relevant departments.
