Google has begun rolling out a redesigned account switcher for its first-party apps, starting with Gmail for Android. The new interface replaces the previous overlay-style switcher that allowed background content to remain visible during use.
The updated account switcher is available on Gmail version 2024.11.24.x and introduces a full-screen layout that offers a fresh visual experience. It features a dynamic colour-themed background and a prominent “X” icon in the top-right corner for users to close the interface.
Key enhancements include a large profile picture, a greeting message, and the user’s email address displayed at the top. A “Manage your Google Account” button is positioned below, accompanied by options to switch accounts, add new ones, and manage existing accounts on the device.
Additionally, Gmail-specific details like storage usage are displayed, alongside links to Google’s “Privacy Policy” and “Terms of Service.”
This full-screen design prioritizes a seamless and user-friendly interface. However, some users might find the expanded layout unnecessary for routine account switching tasks.
The new account switcher is expected to roll out to other Google apps in the near future.
