YouTube Rolls Out New Bottom Bar Design on Android

YouTube has rolled out updated icons for its Android app, part of a broader redesign aimed at streamlining navigation and enhancing user experience.

Changes to the Bottom Bar

While the layout of the bottom bar remains the same, four of its five icons now feature a refreshed look:

  • Home: Redesigned with a more prominent appearance.
  • Shorts: Features thicker and bolder lines.
  • Create (+): Now enclosed within a grey circle, ditching the previous outline.
  • Subscriptions: Showcases a sleeker and more rounded design.
  • Profile: No changes have been made to this icon.

The update is available for Android users running version 19.45 of the app. However, iOS users are still awaiting the redesign. The updated icons are also visible on YouTube’s web platform, though there’s no word on similar changes for YouTube Music or YouTube TV.

Recent YouTube Updates

The refreshed bottom bar is part of a series of recent YouTube improvements, including:

  • Playback Speed Controls: Redesigned for both Android and iOS.
  • Mini-Player and Settings Layout: Updated for a more intuitive user experience on Android.
  • App Shortcuts: The “Explore” tab was removed, and outline-style icons were introduced across the app.

These updates underline YouTube’s commitment to providing a cleaner and more user-friendly interface. Android users can explore the updated icons now, while iOS users are expected to receive the redesign soon.
