The Gmail app on Android is adding a new feature aimed at improving email search. In addition to the AI capabilities powered by Google Gemini, the app now includes new sorting filters to help users find emails more efficiently.
The feature, which allows users to sort emails by “Most recent” or “Most relevant,” has started rolling out, as reported.
This new tool replaces the previous “Top results” section, which displayed relevant emails at the top and others in reverse chronological order.
With the update, users will find a filter button beneath the existing search options (such as Labels, From, To, Attachment, Date, and Is Unread). By tapping the button, users can choose the “Most recent” or “Most relevant” options to personalize their email search experience.
While the feature is already accessible to some users, it’s still being gradually released, suggesting that it may be activated through a server-side update.
Some users have also noticed the new filters appearing on the web version of Gmail, indicating a potential broader rollout to mobile apps in the near future.
