When Hope Carew discovered a proposal plan her brother, Griffin Carew, wrote at age nine, she knew she had to save it for his wedding day.
On October 11, during Griffin’s wedding to Alyssa Kantor Carew in Monroe, New York, Hope read the whimsical proposal in front of their 150 guests.
Hope found the proposal while going through childhood memorabilia kept by their father. “As I was flipping through the yearbook, this random piece of folded loose-leaf paper fell out,” she recalled. “I couldn’t believe what I had found! My brother’s a lefty, so his handwriting is very distinct.”
At the wedding, Hope teased, “Don’t kill me,” before reading Griffin’s elaborate plans, which included private jets, romantic getaways, and a proposal with a “$130 million ring.” The guests erupted in laughter as she read, with one attendee laughing so hard they nearly lost control.
“People were falling out of their chairs dying laughing,” Hope said. Despite the embarrassment, Griffin took it in stride, and the couple’s actual proposal was a beautiful moment in Portugal. “She was completely surprised and said ‘yes’ right away,” Hope shared.
