Following the success of “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story”, Cooper Koch is pursuing new and bigger opportunities. The Netflix crime anthology star recently revealed his interest in a future role in the upcoming remake of the 2000 film “American Psycho”.
During an interview at the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles on October 19, 2024, Cooper Koch, the acclaimed actor who portrays Erik in Ryan Murphy’s “Monsters” series, expressed interest in playing Patrick Bateman in the upcoming remake of “American Psycho”. Speaking to “The Hollywood Reporter”, the “They/Them” star from the 2022 horror film confidently stated, “Luca’s doing “American Psycho”, so I think I can do Patrick Bateman.”
Koch also noted that he hasn’t had the chance to play a serial killer yet, adding, “I think I could do it.” He further shared with the outlet that since his appearance as Erik in “Monsters”, he’s been receiving a steady stream of major offers and exciting opportunities.
“Things are coming in, things are moving, things are happening, taking meetings, and the needle is threading so we’ll see,” the A New York Christmas star stated.
However, Koch mentioned that nothing has been finalized yet. According to “Deadline”, Luca Guadagnino may direct a “new adaptation” of Bret Easton Ellis’s 1991 novel, which will not be a remake. The original “American Psycho” starred Christian Bale as investment banker Patrick Bateman.
In the same interview, Cooper Koch revealed that ”Challengers” is his favorite release of the year. The Luca Guadagnino film features Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist in unique roles. Meanwhile, Koch has garnered praise from both critics and viewers for his outstanding performance as Erik Menendez in the Netflix series.
“Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” also features Nicholas Alexander Chavez as Lyle Menendez, Koch’s on-screen brother, and Javier Bardem as their father, José Menendez. Chloe Sevigny plays Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez, the mother of Erik and Lyle. The crime anthology delves into the high-profile murder case that captured widespread attention in the 1980s.
Reports indicate that Erik and Lyle shot their parents, José and Kitty Menendez, with 12-gauge shotguns. In 1996, a jury convicted both brothers of first-degree murder, leading to their sentences of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
“Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story” is the second season of the anthology, released after the success of “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”, which starred Evan Peters. Reports indicate that Charlie Hunnam will portray the infamous serial killer Ed Gein in the third season of the Ryan Murphy series.
