The news of Moronta’s passing was confirmed by both the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) and Liga Mexicana de Beisbol (Mexican Baseball League), which expressed their condolences on social media. The MLBPA stated, “We send our heartfelt sympathies to his family and friends in his native Dominican Republic and throughout the game.”
Moronta, born in Santiago de los Caballeros in 1993, began his MLB career with the Giants, signing as an international free agent at 17. He made his MLB debut in 2017 and quickly established himself as a top reliever, appearing in 136 games from 2017 to 2021. His career was interrupted by shoulder surgery in 2019, causing him to miss the entire 2020 season.
In March 2022, Moronta joined the Los Angeles Dodgers, appearing in 22 games before briefly playing for the Los Angeles Angels in the past season.
