- The new design of WhatsApp’s status tab moves away from the old horizontal layout.
- Users can now preview status updates directly from the top tray of the updates tab.
The newest beta release of WhatsApp introduces several updates, notably a redesigned status tab intended to enhance the user experience. This alteration was observed in version 2.24.4.23 for Android.
Moving away from the previous horizontal layout and profile picture identification, the new design adopts a more intuitive approach. Users can now preview status updates directly from the top tray of the updates tab, where thumbnail previews of the initial shared status are showcased. This allows for a quick overview of the content without the necessity of opening each status update separately.
Here is what it looks like:.

In response to user feedback highlighting drawbacks and inconveniences in the previous layout, WhatsApp has introduced this redesign. By prioritizing large thumbnails for previews, the goal is to improve the browsing experience, enabling users to quickly decide which updates to explore further.
Additionally, the redesign affects the placement and visibility of channel posts within the Updates tab, encompassing both status and channel updates. The introduction of a card-style format for status updates enhances their visibility, which could potentially impact the presentation of channel updates.
WhatsApp is set to introduce several minor updates, including the option to transfer channel ownership, designate favorite contacts for quick access, disable reactions in channels, automatic account creation, a revamped interface for the channel list, and numerous bug fixes addressing various issues.
