High-level flooding in Punjab rivers: Several cities submerged, educational institutions closed

Lahore /Sialkot /Shorkot /Sheikhupura : The 2025 Pakistan floods are a series of devastating flash floods. Nearly half a million people have been forced to flee their homes in eastern Pakistan as relentless monsoon rains triggered severe flooding, swelling major rivers and inundating towns and farmlands.

According to a report by the Flood Forecasting Division, several rivers across Punjab are experiencing high-level flooding, submerging multiple villages and prompting the closure of educational institutions in several districts.

At Shahdara, the inflow and outflow of water has been recorded at 90,500 cusecs, indicating a high flood level. The situation worsens further downstream at Balloki, where the flow has surged to 211,395 cusecs.

River Sutlej:
The water flow on Suleimanki has reached on 154,219 cusecs, putting nearby areas at serious risk of flooding and displacement.

River Chenab:
The water level at Qadirabad has risen to 203,862 cusecs, while Trimmu is witnessing a moderate flood with a flow of 230,688 cusecs. Jassar is also facing a moderate flood situation, with 95,580 cusecs recorded.

Rain and Flood Impact:
Heavy rainfall in areas like Haveli Lakha, Hujra Shah Muqeem, and Renala Khurd has led to the submergence of low-lying regions. In Shorkot, floodwaters have entered several nearby villages including Kharanwala, Obhan, Khaki Lakhi, and Bandi Kamalana. Government Elementary School Kharanwala is also inundated. Additionally, power supply has been disrupted in various locations such as Jasowali, Dabklan, and Kukowala.

Closure of Educational Institutions:
Due to the worsening flood situation of 2025 Pakistan flood, all educational institutions in Sialkot will remain closed until September 5. In Sheikhupura, schools have been closed until further notice. Educational activities have also been suspended in Sharaqpur, Muridke, and Safdarabad.
