We’ve all seen fire stunts performed by a stuntman in a circus or a bartender in a sophisticated club show. But what if you don’t have any practice or experience? One may be fortunate to survive, yet sometimes things go tragically wrong. Humans have a habit of doing such things on a regular basis, and social media platforms are a storehouse of such footage.

A video of a man attempting to demonstrate a fire act that goes tragically wrong has gone viral. The now-viral video depicts a man standing on a higher platform with a fire-filled stick. He then takes a gulp of petrol and blasts it at the fire with great force. Within seconds of throwing the fire stick on the ground, his beard catches fire. People standing around him raced to aid him as the beard caught fire in the footage.

People slapped him on the face numerous times to put out the flames. As he raced to assist, one of them slid onto the lower-placed table. However, neither the place nor the exact time is indicated in the video.

The internet users chastised the man for performing such a dangerous stunt. One person wrote, “Itna risk lete hi kyun ho jisse khud ko nuksaan ho.” “Bahut hi Khatarnak stunt Hai Har Kisi Ko yah nahin karna chahie,” another person remarked. Many users left teary-eyed emojis in the comments section.

Man Returns Grandfather’s Library Book After 84 Years

After nearly eight decades, a copy of the Red Deer book has been returned to a library. The late Captain William Humphries borrowed Richard Jefferies’ book from Earlsdon Library in England in 1938. On Tuesday, the book was returned by his grandson Raddy Riordan. According to BBC, Riordan discovered the book while cleaning up his mother’s house. Riordan made a donation of £18.27 (about Rs. 1,745) when returning the book after 84 years, which would have accrued fines at the 1930s rate.

Riordan would have had to pay £7,673 if the current library charge of 25p per day had been applied to the book (approximately Rs 7 lakh).  “I feel I have expunged my grandfather’s crime,” Riordan said of the incident. Lucy Winter, the library’s community engagement coordinator, described the book as a “beautiful aspect of the library’s history” during an interview with the Local Democracy Reporting Service. “Mr. Riordan was so nice and it was so kind of him to donate the fine back to the library,” she said.

The grandson, who lives in Saffron Walden, Essex, felt it would be ‘fun’ to return the copy to the library. According to legend, his grandfather borrowed the book for his then-six-year-old daughter Anne, Riordan’s mother. “My grandfather lived in Earlsdon in the late 1930s. That was where my mother was growing up at the time. I don’t know quite why he didn’t return it but two years later… the Blitz took most of the house out but not the library book. I felt rather bad as I was returning it – they asked if I had read it and I hadn’t. Maybe I should try and take it out again just so I can read it myself. It really wasn’t that exciting a book though, honestly,” replied the grandson.

According to a notification on the front page of the book, the book should have been returned within 14 days by October 11, 1938. Riordan came into the book while cleaning out his late mother’s house in Hinckley, Leicestershire.

White, furry “Boogie-Woogie” insects dancing on leaf stun internet

On social media, a video of odd white, hairy bugs seemingly dancing around a leaf has gone popular. The video, which was released a few days ago on Reddit, showed the insects, which were covered in stringy white fur, moving back and forth and waving their hair-like filaments in the air.

“Found some tiny strange bugs dancing around a leaf while hiking. Someone, please tell me what the heck they are? They were on a walking path only around one single leaf,” Read the post’s caption.

The video has received over 78,000 upvotes and nearly 4,000 comments since it was shared. The appearance of the bizarre bugs astonished internet users. Some speculated that the insects were beech blight aphids, commonly known as ‘boogie-woogie’ aphids, while others just described the video as “creepy.”

“When a colony of beech blight aphids gets disturbed, they’ll hoist their fuzzy posteriors high in the air and pulse in unison as a warning to predators,” one user noted. “Ew, that’s creepy,” said another.

Meanwhile, according to Newsweek, ‘boogie-woogie’ aphids may be found all over the United States. Their bodies are covered with glands that produce long, white, waxy strands, giving them the appearance of small woolly sheep. Their distinctive “dance,” as shown in the video, is a defensive strategy.

“Their waggling warns others of danger, but the young aphids will actually attack and bite potential predators. To do so, they use their piercing mouthparts, a kind of straw they use to feed on sap,” Francois Brassard, an insect ecology specialist at Charles Darwin University in Australia, elaborated. Mr Brassard also cautioned against touching these dancing beetles. If bitten, the waxy threads jam a predator’s throat, causing it to starve, he claims.
