Rugby: Ireland beat 14-man New Zealand in historic victory

Ireland beat New Zealand
  • Ireland record their first victory over the All Blacks in New Zealand.
  • Ireland lost their composure as they progressed through the phases.
  • Caelan Doris put out a heroic effort that included a magnificent tap tackle on Jordie Barrett.

After a tumultuous game, Ireland prevailed to even the three-match series and record their first victory over the All Blacks in New Zealand.

After 31 minutes of a highly unruly first half in Dunedin, Angus Ta’avao was given the red card, permanently reducing the All Blacks to 14 men.

The visitors held the lead the entire time thanks to tries from Andrew Porter in either half.

The winner-takes-all meeting in Wellington the following week will decide the series.

Prior to 2016, Ireland had never defeated New Zealand. Since then, they have triumphed in four of the last seven encounters, with their most recent victory serving as perhaps the most illustrative case of the advancements made under Andy Farrell.

Their cause was helped by a brutally unruly New Zealand team, whose first-half discipline issues temporarily reduced them to 13 men twice, with them only posing an attacking danger in the latter portions of both halves.

Next week, Ireland will expect a huge response, but they won’t be afraid as they pursue what would be a remarkable series victory.

Ireland gained access over disorganized All Blacks

The fact that the All Blacks were somehow just three points behind at the end of a first-half that lasted nearly an hour would have given the hosts a big boost as they entered the locker rooms.

They created a lot of their own issues, as astonishing disobedience resulted in a red card and two yellow cards, giving Ireland their greatest chance ever to win in New Zealand.

All 10 of the visitors’ first-half points came before any cards were given, but they never took advantage of their numerical advantage.

Similar to how they did a week earlier in Auckland, Ireland exploded out of the gates and this time found the try-line in three minutes, as Porter scored after Tadhg Beirne made a big carry in the middle.

The Irish got off to a devastatingly accurate start as the All Blacks were unable to establish any form of rhythm.

After 17 minutes, they were down to 14, thanks to Leicester Fainga’anuku’s dismissal for colliding shoulder-first with Mack Hansen. The young Crusaders winger narrowly avoided receiving a yellow card because Hansen was his first point of contact.

Beauden Barrett made a try-saving interception as Ireland continued to dominate and had numbers out wide barely a meter from the line.

Although it appeared that New Zealand had escaped punishment, television replays revealed that Ofa Tu’ungafasi had tackled Garry Ringrose while the center was about to receive an inside pass from Johnny Sexton.

Even though Ringrose appeared to be the favorite to run unimpeded to the try-line without being stopped, referee Jaco Peyper decided against giving the penalty try and instead sent Tu’ungafasi to the sin bin because he felt there were enough cover tacklers.

When Ta’avao crashed head-first into Ringrose during the first 25 minutes of play, Peyper had no choice but to dismiss the replacement prop since New Zealand was out of sorts and on the defensive.

Even worse, key back row Ardie Savea was benched to make room for prop Aidan Ross, with the Kiwi management ostensibly believing they could reinstate Savea once Tu’ungafasi’s sin-bin period was up. However, they were unable to do so.

The All Blacks had nightmares because of it, although they were only 10 points down. Ireland twice found themselves momentarily playing against 13 men, but they wasted those opportunities to score tries as inaccuracy took hold.

The hosts picked up the pace with five minutes left in the half and for the first time in the match pushed into the Irish 22.

Ireland lost their composure as they progressed through the phases, with James Ryan receiving a yellow card for persistent infractions.

A try seemed inescapable, and it eventually materialized when Beauden Barrett miraculously brought his team within three points with a kick through Porter’s legs and grounding.

With a numerical advantage for the entirety of the half, Ireland knew they had a chance to achieve history if they could regain their fluency.

When Porter completed a smooth play with a strong leg drive in the 49th minute, they regained control of the game as they had at the beginning of the first half.

In the scrum and the line-out, where New Zealand sorely lacked lock Sam Whitelock, the visitors were dominating where they faltered a week prior.

Despite being somewhat quiet by his high standards in Auckland, Caelan Doris put out a heroic effort that included a magnificent tap tackle on Jordie Barrett to halt the full-back from racing away for a try.

The Dunedin fans anticipated a response from their team, but in reality, there was never a real threat to Ireland’s lead during the second half.

Before New Zealand finally drove into the 22 and Will Jordan scored in the corner, Sexton had given Ireland a 16-point lead. With two minutes left, though, the damage had already been done to the hosts.

Rugby: England tie series with Australia

England beat Australia
  • England lead 19-0 after an early try from Billy Vunipola.
  • Taniela Tupou cut England’s lead in half, and a Samu Kerevi try increased the pressure.
  • England was able to tie the series and snap a four-match losing streak.

England defeated Australia in the second Test match in Brisbane with aggressive and tenacious performance, extending the three-match series to a championship game.

England lead 19-0 after an early try from Billy Vunipola and four additional penalties from Owen Farrell.

Just before halftime, Taniela Tupou cut England’s lead in half, and a Samu Kerevi try increased the pressure.

Following a comeback, England was able to tie the series and snap a four-match losing streak thanks to a sixth Farrell penalty.

After losing the first Test by a disheartening score of 30-28 to a 14-man Australia, Eddie Jones’ team required a significantly better performance.

After continuous Australia pressure in the second half, England was able to retake the initiative thanks to a strong start and commanding lead.

The Ella-Mobbs Cup is still up for grabs, so they now head to Sydney for the championship game the following Saturday.

England dominating first half:

In the first minute, England’s prop Ellis Genge ploughed past Australia captain Michael Hooper, setting the tone for the team’s performance.

With a firm grip on the game thanks to their aggressive tackling, the visitors drove Vunipola over the line from an England line-out for the game’s first try.

The aggression of England shook the Wallabies, and Farrell hit the visitors with two penalties to exact revenge.

Marcus Smith attempted to free Tommy Freeman, who was making his debut, but Izaia Perese knocked his pass forward and was thus banished to the sin-bin for an intentional knock-on.

As England put a strain on Australia’s defense, Jack Nowell was forced to move to the other wing because there was no more room.

Farrell added two more penalties, but Jones’ team still required a try to demonstrate their superiority.

Instead, Australia made a first-time break into England’s 22, and prop Taniela Tupou, known as the “Tongan Thor” for his enormous size and strength, smashed through the line to give the hosts a chance.

Before the break, England had a further hit when Maro Itoje, a lock, left the game to have his head examined after colliding.

All users of Netflix can access immersive spatial audio

Netflix
  • Netflix has introduced spatial audio for all platforms.
  • The feature was created in partnership with Sennheiser.
  • Users can search Netflix’s catalog to find content that supports spatial audio.

To improve the audio of its library of original movies, Netflix has introduced spatial audio for all platforms.

The functionality should provide more immersive sound, especially for users who wear headphones to view a TV show or a movie.

The extended spatial audio output was created in partnership between Sennheiser and Netflix and can be broadcast through stereo speakers or headphones without the use of extra hardware or a professional surround setup.

Content that supports it will now use Sennheiser’s Ambeo 2-Channel Spatial Audio format rather than the stereo output on the Netflix platform.

Ambeo uses any Dolby Atmos or surround sound audio files that are offered for the chosen content to create a more immersive stereo profile.

Additionally, Netflix offers 5.1 surround sound and Dolby Atmos audio on Apple TV, iPhone, and iPad devices to provide a great surround sound experience.

On a compatible Apple device, the “Streaming quality” parameter needs to be set to “High or Auto” in order to listen to spatial audio.

All Netflix users will be able to use the feature, and it will even function on gadgets that don’t typically support spatial audio.

Although there isn’t much Netflix content that makes use of the spatial audio capability right now, users may utilize the search bar to find all of the series and movies that do.

Red Notice, The Witcher, Locke & Key, The Adam Project, and Stranger Things 4 are a few of the early favorites.

Vivo India bashed for money laundering

Vivo India
  • Vivo India’s 40 locations were searched by the Enforcement Directorate of India.
  • 119 bank accounts totaling INR 465 crore (approximately $58 million) were confiscated.
  • Directors of Vivo India left the country when the Directorate disclosed about deleting and covering up digital evidence.

Vivo India’s 40 locations were searched by the Enforcement Directorate of India, which also provided information regarding the investigation.

An official press statement states that the corporation sent INR 62,476 crore, or about $8 billion, to China.

119 bank accounts totaling INR 465 crore (approximately $58 million) were confiscated by the ED during the inquiry, along with 2 kg of gold bars, an additional INR 66 crore ($8.3 million), and 73 lakh (just under $100,000) in cash.

According to the Enforcement Directorate’s statement, over half of all sales made by Vivo India were diverted to China.

To avoid paying taxes on this money and “disclose large losses in Indian incorporated corporations,” this was done.

Zhengshen Ou and Zhang Jie, the directors of Vivo India, left the country when the Directorate disclosed that “certain Chinese Nationals,” without providing names, had deleted and covered up digital proof of money laundering.

Money transfers were made through a fictitious Hong Kong-based shell firm, Vivo India was incorporated as a subsidiary and had smaller entities operating independently, at least on paper, in each of the country’s principal regions.

Then, they forwarded all profits to Vivo India, a subsidiary that promptly transferred the money to its parent firm.

The company “has been cooperating with authorities and is dedicated to complete compliance with the Indian law,” according to executives of Vivo India.

A “really fair and non-discriminatory business environment” will be used to conduct the current investigations, the parent company in China expressed hope.

Motorola set to release 200MP phone

Motorola
  • The Moto X30 Pro will have a 6.67-inch OLED display with a fluid 144Hz refresh rate.
  • It will be powered by a 4,500 mAh battery that supports 125W rapid charging.
  • We can anticipate the phone’s release later this month since the teaser campaign has already begun.

The Xiaomi Mi Note 10’s 108-megapixel smartphone camera was a technological advance in 2019. Since then, we have been stuck with the same resolution, and no phone has gone past 108MP.

However, that barrier may soon be broken.

All the rumors of a 200MP Motorola phone are true, according to Motorola, who has confirmed them.

The evidence is provided by a teaser that displays several smartphone camera sensors and draws attention to the 1.22-inch sensor that is sandwiched in between the others.

This information reveals that the next Motorola phone would make use of Samsung’s ISOCELL HP1 sensor, the only 200MP sensor in the entire world.

The Moto X30 Pro, which was formerly known as Motorola Frontier in rumors, will be the name of this 200MP camera phone.

We can anticipate the phone’s release later this month since the teaser campaign has already begun.

The X30 Pro may continue to be available only in China, but it may debut elsewhere in the world under a different brand.

According to rumors, the flagship phone would have a 6.67-inch OLED display with a fluid 144Hz refresh rate.

It will be powered by a 4,500 mAh battery that supports 125W rapid charging and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC.

Asus Zenfone 9 Price in Pakistan & Specs

Asus Zenfone 9 Price in Pakistan

One of the most running Android phones last year was the Asus Zenfone 8, and now we’re finally receiving some official information on the Zenfone 9 after it was shown in a product film.

A 5.9-inch Samsung AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and a punch hole in the left corner will be included with the gadget.

The smartphone has a 4,300 mAh battery and the most recent Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 CPU. The ROG Phone 6 series’ 50MP Sony IMX766 camera sensor is used in the dual-camera system on the rear of this device, but this time around, Asus is also including a six-axis gimbal module for video stabilization.

At this time, Asus has not made any official announcements on the Zenfone 9, but based on the stolen product video, more information should be forthcoming.

Infinix Zero Ultra’s price leaked

Infinix Zero Ultra
  • Infiniz Zero Ultra with 180W fast charging is expected to be released in Pakistan.
  • The smartphone will be powered by a 4,500mAh battery pack and up to 8GB of RAM.
  • The new Zero Ultra’s comparison might stand against OnePlus Nord 2T, iOOO Neo 6, and POCO F4 5G.

A brand-new smartphone from Infinix that supports a whopping 180W fast charging is expected to be released in Pakistan, the company recently hinted.

The model in issue may now be dubbed Zero Ultra, and a recent rumor has also disclosed its potential price.

An international tech website claims that the smartphone manufacturer will soon introduce the 180W rapid charging Infinix Zero Ultra in Pakistan under the name Thunder Charge.

The smartphone’s finer points are still unclear, though. Nevertheless, based on the prior teaser, we already know that it will be powered by a 4,500mAh battery pack that can be charged 50% in just 4 minutes owing to the Thunder Charge function.

In addition, the system is anticipated to include up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

However, it mentions that the phone might just be a 4G model. The Infinix Zero Ultra might have a chipset from a previous generation, according to the claim.

The report has revealed its potential pricing range, which may be between 65,000 PKR and 79,000 PKR, however further details are still unknown (roughly 315 to 379 US Dollars).

It is, in other words, an upper mid-range phone that will compete with other designs in the same price category, such as the OnePlus Nord 2T, iOOO Neo 6, and the POCO F4 5G.

Its amazing rapid charging rate is without a doubt its standout feature. But given its other features, it is still unclear whether its price is justified.

AC Milan make ex-delivery man Messias’ move permanent

AC Milan
  • Serie A champions re-negotiate purchase fee to 4.5 million euros plus bonuses.
  • Brazilian scored five times in 26 league appearances for Milan last season.
  • He began his career as a delivery man in the amateur game in Italy.

Junior Messias completed his rise from delivery man to Serie A star on Thursday when his move to AC Milan was made permanent by the Italian champions.

Brazilian Messias signed for Milan last summer on a season-long loan from Crotone with an option to buy for just over five million euros and was an important part of his team’s charge to the Serie A title, scoring five times in 26 league appearances.

Milan has deposited Messias’ contract with Serie A after renegotiating the purchase fee to a reported 4.5 million euros plus bonuses.

Messias’ arrival at the highest levels of club football is all the more impressive given he began his career in Italy in the amateur game over a decade ago.

He arrived in Italy to live with his brother in 2011 and slowly rose through the lower reaches of Italian football — at one point transporting fridges for a living — before being picked up by then-Serie B club Crotone in January 2019.

He helped the southern team up to Serie A and two seasons ago scored nine times in 36 league appearances for a team that went straight back down after a year in the top flight, earning himself the chance to play for seven-time European champions Milan on loan.

However, his rise was far from smooth, with a 2017 move to historic club Pro Vercelli — winners of seven league titles in the early years of the last century — blocked because Serie B clubs were banned from signing players without EU passports from amateur leagues.

He would do his delivery work during the summer months between seasons rather than go on holiday in order to make a living.

Those sacrifices have led to him running out at the San Siro for one of the world’s most storied clubs and winning their first Scudetto since the year he moved to Italy.

Corberan resigns as coach of English second-tier Huddersfield

Corberan
  • Carlos Corberan resigns as head coach of Huddersfield Town.
  • Spaniard guided the club to Championship play-off final at Wembley in May.
  • Danny Schofield appointed as the new head coach.

Carlos Corberan has resigned as head coach of Huddersfield Town, the English second-tier club announced Thursday.

The Spaniard guided the Yorkshire club to the Championship play-off final at Wembley in May, where Huddersfield missed out on the chance to play in next season’s edition of the elite and lucrative Premier League following a 1-0 defeat by Nottingham Forest.

In a club statement, the Terriers said Corberan had resigned together with longstanding assistant Jorge Alarcon following a meeting with head of football operations Leigh Bromby on Wednesday.

A club statement issued Thursday said: “Huddersfield Town can confirm that Carlos Corberan has today resigned from his position as head coach.

“The 39-year-old was appointed to the role in July 2020 and, following a 20th-place finish in his first season, coached the team to the Sky Bet Championship play-off final in the last campaign.

“However, he notified the club of his decision to leave, alongside his long-term colleague Jorge Alarcon, on Wednesday evening.”

Huddersfield added Danny Schofield has been appointed as their new head coach.

Corberan became a head coach for the first time in his career when he succeeded Danny Cowley at Huddersfield after ending his three-year spell as a coach at Leeds under Marcelo Bielsa.

Huddersfield, relegated from the Premier League in 2019, struggled in Corberan’s first season and for the second successive occasion were nearly relegated to the third tier of English football.

But their form improved markedly the last term as Corberan guided the Terriers to a third-place finish in the Championship, with only the top two at the end of the regular season guaranteed automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Corberan later released a statement on Twitter, saying his exit had been “a difficult decision but one I gave a lot of thought to and have made based on my great affection for this club”.

He explained he had to have the “utmost alignment” with club policy to work well, adding: “There are times in life when the most honest thing to do is to step aside on amicable terms in the best interests of both parties.”

Covid outbreak hits Sri Lanka on eve of Australia Test

Covid
  • Sri Lanka’s players tested positive for Covid-19 on eve of the second Test against Australia.
  • Dhananjaya de Silva, Jeffrey Vandersay and Asitha Fernando all tested positive.
  • Hosts looking to bounce back from crushing 10-wicket defeat in first Test.

A Covid-19 outbreak hit Sri Lanka’s team on the eve of Friday’s second Test against Australia with Dhananjaya de Silva, Jeffrey Vandersay and Asitha Fernando all testing positive for the virus.

“All three players were found to be positive during a Rapid Antigen Test conducted yesterday,” Sri Lanka Cricket said Thursday.

The hosts are looking to bounce back after their crushing 10-wicket defeat inside three days in the opening Test of the two-match series.

Angelo Mathews has returned to the team after testing positive during the first Test but Praveen Jayawickrama had already been ruled out on Tuesday after testing positive for Covid.

Sri Lanka had already reinforced their spin bowling contingent with the addition of Maheesh Theekshana, Dinuth Wellalage and Prabath Jayasuriya along with all-rounder Lakshita Manasinghe, who bowls off-spin.

Lakshan Sandakan, a left-arm wrist-spinner who last played a Test in 2018, was added Thursday to the squad as further cover.

Australia consider Maxwell as spin all-rounder for second Test

Australia
  • Australia captain Pat Cummins confirms Glenn Maxwell will fight for a place in the team.
  • Off-spinner Maxwell took five wickets in Australia’s 3-2 one-day series loss to Sri Lanka.
  • Three Sri Lankan players contracted Covid-19.

All-rounder Glenn Maxwell remains in Australia’s plans for the second Test against Covid-hit Sri Lanka on an expected turner at Galle, skipper Pat Cummins said Thursday.

Maxwell, a batsman who bowls off-spin, will fight for a place in the team with fast bowler Mitchell Starc as the tourists look to clinch the series in the final match starting Friday.

Cummins said he will announce the XI at the toss.

“Same 12 (as in the last match), we are going to have a look at the wicket today, maybe in the morning as well and see what they end up doing with it,” Cummins told reporters after having a first look at the pitch.

“The wicket may be different from last week,” he said. “Last week we probably didn’t need two quicks but we know Mitchell Starc’s class, so wait and see.”

Cummins said Maxwell, who last played a Test in 2017, will come in “as a spinning all-rounder at (number) eight” if he is picked.

“I thought he was the pick of the bowlers in the one-day series. He was excellent,” Cummins said of Maxwell who took five wickets in his team’s 3-2 ODI loss to Sri Lanka.

“You feel like you can easily get 15 to 20 overs out of him.”

The tourists won the opener by 10 wickets inside three days with off-spinner Nathan Lyon taking nine wickets.

Cummins said anyone getting a game in the sub-continent has an eye on next year’s tour to India, where Australia will play four Tests across February and March.

‘He’ll be fine’

Starc was the leading Australian bowler with 24 scalps when the tourists were whitewashed in their 2016 trip to Sri Lanka, but Cummins said the veteran quick would understand the team call if he misses out.

“He’ll be fine. It’s purely conditions-based,” said Cummins.

“They know their quality. Mitch Starc was the leading wicket-taker here last time. They’re great team players. They know their worth to the team.”

Sri Lanka have been hit by a Covid-19 outbreak with Dhananjaya de Silva, Jeffrey Vandersay and Asitha Fernando all testing positive for the virus.

The hosts had already reinforced their spin bowling contingent with the addition of Maheesh Theekshana, Dunith Wellalage, and Prabath Jayasuriya along with all-rounder Lakshitha Manasinghe, who bowls off-spin.

Lakshan Sandakan, a left-arm wrist-spinner who last played a Test in 2018, was Thursday added to the squad as further cover.

Cummins said they have some knowledge about Sri Lanka’s additions, especially mystery spinner Theekshana and left-arm orthodox Wellalage — both of whom await a Test debut after their one-day exploits.

“Two spinners who we saw quite a bit of in the one-day series,” said Cummins.

“Not too much extra planning. We’ll wait and see. We feel like we have been lucky to avoid it (Covid) so far,” said the fast bowler.

Former Heat forward joins Philadelphia 76ers

Philadelphia
  • J. Tucker signs with the Philadelphia 76ers for three years and $33.2 million.
  • Tucker played for the Miami Heat last season.
  • He will try to aid Philadelphia in its bid for a title.

P.J. Tucker, a former forward for the Miami Heat, has consistently contributed intangibly at each NBA destination.

When Tucker shows up at training camp, the Philadelphia 76ers don’t anticipate anything different.

Wednesday marked Tucker’s official signing with the Sixers. His contract is for three years and $33.2 million.

Sixers team president Daryl Morey said, “We’re thrilled to add his leadership, toughness, defensive versatility, and championship heritage to our squad. P.J. is a valuable acquisition because of his work ethic and philosophy, which he says he wants to bring an NBA championship to Philadelphia.”

He will try to aid Philadelphia in its bid for a title after leading the Heat past the Sixers in the second round of the playoffs.

Tucker assisted the Heat in reaching the conference finals during his one season in Miami. They missed out on the NBA Finals by one victory.

“I’m going to come in here and do all I can to help push us to that next level because this team is good enough to play head-to-head with anyone in the league,” Tucker said.

“Philadelphia fans want excellence, and it’s up to us to get there,”
