Samsung’s latest smartphone camera to be 450 MP

Samsung's latest smartphone
  • Samsung trademarked the word “Hexa²pixel” for an image sensor with 450 MP resolution.
  • The sensor would perform 36-in-1 pixel binning, which is the joining of several 66 pixels into a single pixel.
  • Samsung hasn’t said when its camera will go on sale, but we’ll hear more next year.

Samsung is developing revolutionary camera technology that will enable mobile devices to reach an astounding 450 MP resolution.

The word “Hexa²pixel,” which is defined in the application as “image sensors for photographic devices,” has been trademarked by the company.

GalaxyClub was the first to notice this, but Ice Universe has since tweeted about the trademark and hinted at its resolution.

Hexa²pixel

According to the tip, the future Hexa²pixel image sensor would be able to perform 36-in-1 pixel binning, which is the joining of several 66 pixels into a single pixel. This is significantly better than the Tetracell (22) and Nonapixel (33) arrangements that are already on the market. If the intended resolution is 12MP, this means that a massive 432MP—which can be rounded to 450MP—will be compressed into a single image.

This has a resolution that is more than twice as high as Samsung’s 200MP ISOCELL HP1 (1.22″ by 0.64″ pixels) and HP3 (1.4″ by 0.56″ pixels).

Given the “2” in Hexa²pixel and the fact that both HP sensors have 12MP and 50MP outputs, it seems likely that they can also produce additional outputs.

When a 33 or 66 arrangement is used, 12MP and 48MP output resolutions are appropriate. Since so many pixels must fit into a single image, binning will be required.

As of right now, all we know is that Samsung is developing such a sensor, and we don’t know when it will go on sale. Most certainly, next year, we’ll hear more.

Oppo K10 Energy Price in Pakistan & Specs

Oppo K10 Energy Price in Pakistan

Following its initial sighting earlier this month, the Oppo K10 Energy went official today. However, Oppo wrote “Energy” on the back, so we’re sticking with it.

The term can alternatively be translated as Light, Youth, or Vitality. With a Snapdragon 778G CPU, the phone is intended to be a more cheap alternative to the Oppo K10 5G and is already available in China.

A 6.59″ LCD with a 120 Hz refresh rate and Full HD+ resolution is included on the K10 smartphone. For the 16MP selfie camera, a punch hole is present in the left corner. Along with an 8MP ultrawide and 2MP auxiliary camera, the back of the device houses a 64MP primary camera.

The Oppo K9s specs sheet has exactly the same features as most of those that seem familiar. The primary distinction is in the memory; the Oppo K10 Energy is offered with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, making it more powerful than any K9s variant.

Additionally, it has a 5,000 mAh battery with 30W quick charging, sophisticated cooling, ColorOS 12, which is based on Android 12, and two new colors: Black and Blue.

Redmi K50S Pro specs leak; Xiaomi’s first 200MP phone

Xiaomi Redmi K50S Pro
  • Xiaomi Redmi K50S Pro will have a 6.67 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ compatibility.
  • Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and 200MP camera may have consumed the entire budget.
  • The phone ought to have twin speakers and an in-display fingerprint reader.

The Xiaomi Redmi K50S Pro is gradually beginning to come into focus. If the timing of the launch works out against Motorola, this phone may be the first from Xiaomi to feature a 200MP camera (the 200MP Moto phone was supposed to come out in July, but it seems it got delayed).

In any case, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and the 200MP camera might have consumed the entire budget.

Rumors suggest that the additional two cameras on the rear are a basic 8MP ultra-wide and a 2MP macro (plus a 20MP camera on the front). According to sources, these are the specifications.

The 6.67″ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ compatibility will be level with the rest of the phone.

According to TENAA data, the phone will come with Android 12/MIUI 13 out of the box with memory variants of 8/128GB and 12/256GB.

Other speculated specifications, like the 5,000mAh battery with 120W fast charging, are confirmed by Brar. Additionally, the phone ought to have twin speakers and an in-display fingerprint reader.

Furthermore, a standard Xiaomi Redmi K50S with the Dimensity 8100 is anticipated.

For the international market, it is said that these two would be renamed as the Xiaomi 12T and 12T Pro. There is still no set date for the launch.

Microsoft earnings fall short as computer sales sag

Microsoft earnings fall
  • Microsoft reported a profit of $16.7 billion on revenue of $51.9 billion, topping the same quarter a year earlier.
  • The earnings stumble was due mostly to foreign exchange rates and shutdowns of personal computer factories in China.
  • Microsoft saw consumers spend less on Xbox videogame content in the quarter.

Microsoft on Tuesday said that its earnings in the recently ended quarter fell shy of expectations as personal computer sales suffered from production holdups in China and sagging demand.

The US technology giant reported profit of $16.7 billion on revenue of $51.9 billion, topping the same quarter a year earlier but missing market forecasts.

The earnings stumble was due mostly to foreign exchange rates and shutdowns of personal computer factories in China, Wedbush analyst Dan Ives said in a note to investors.

Microsoft said that the strong US dollar made its offerings more costly in foreign markets, hurting sales.

“The most important core business; cloud and commercial bookings was relatively rock solid despite fears,” Ives said.

“The core DNA of the Microsoft growth story is cloud and core Azure growth which was healthy this quarter and appears to have momentum into 2023 despite economic headwinds.”

Microsoft shares were up some 4 percent in after-market trades that followed release of the earnings figures.

“In a dynamic environment we saw strong demand, took share, and increased customer commitment to our cloud platform,” said Microsoft chief financial officer Amy Hood.

Shutdowns at computer production facilities in China in May, and a deteriorating market for personal computers, cost Microsoft some $300 million in revenue it would have made from Windows operating systems bought to power the machines, the earnings report indicated.

The personal computer market had been in steady decline prior to the pandemic, as people turned to smartphones or tablets.

A massive shift to shopping, working, socializing and playing from home reignited demand for desktop computing power, but it remains to be seen whether that appetite will remain post-pandemic.

Ad revenue at Microsoft’s online news, search, and career social network LinkedIn suffered due to companies cutting marketing budgets due to broad economic woes, the company said.

The tech veteran based in the US state of Washington also logged $126 million in operating expenses related to scaling back its operations in Russia because of that country’s invasion of Ukraine.

Microsoft saw consumers spend less on Xbox videogame content in the quarter compared to the same period a year earlier, in a possible sign that many are out playing in the real world more as pandemic restrictions ease.

However, Microsoft’s cloud, business and productivity offerings continued to thrive.

“We see real opportunity to help every customer in every industry use digital technology to overcome today’s challenges and emerge stronger,” said Microsoft chief executive Satya Nadella.

India’s Tata Motors extends losses on rising costs, chip woes

Tata Motors extends losses
  • Tata Motors announces the sixth straight quarter of losses as inflation, Covid lockdowns hurt sales volumes.
  • Net losses widened to 50.07 billion rupees ($626.6 million) in the June quarter.
  • Sales at British subsidiary JLR fell 11.3 percent to £4.41 billion ($5.32 billion).

India’s Tata Motors announced its sixth straight quarter of losses Wednesday as inflation, Covid lockdowns in China and chip shortages hurt sales volumes at British subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).

Net losses for the Mumbai-headquartered automaker widened to 50.07 billion rupees ($626.6 million) in the June quarter, compared to a loss of 44.51 billion rupees in the same period last year.

Revenue from operations rose 8.3 percent year-on-year to 719.35 billion rupees with a post-pandemic demand bounce, even as sales at JLR fell 11.3 percent to £4.41 billion ($5.32 billion).

Continued shortages of semiconductor chips — a key component in car manufacturing — in addition to Covid-19 lockdowns in China and rising raw material costs hurt JLR sales, the company said.

JLR chief Thierry Bollore said the firm had reinforced its organisational setup to respond to those headwinds.

“This is now starting to recover production growth to achieve greater volumes and will allow us to take advantage of our record order book,” Bollore said in a statement.

Orders at JLR, Britain’s biggest carmaker, rose to 200,000 in the quarter.

Revenue from Tata Motors’ commercial vehicle business jumped 107.2 percent year-on-year to 162.70 billion rupees, as India bounced back from a 2021 pandemic sales dent.

But commercial vehicle exports fell 22.6 percent in the quarter, the company said, due to weak demand in some overseas markets.

Demand for passenger vehicles remained strong, with revenues up 122.5 percent on-year to 115.56 billion rupees.

The company said it sold 9,300 electric vehicles in the quarter, four times as many as in the same quarter last year.

“We expect demand to remain strong despite worries on inflation and geo-political risks while the supply situation is expected to improve further,” the automaker said in a statement filed to stock exchanges.

Shares in Tata Motors closed 0.66 percent higher in Mumbai ahead of the earnings announcement.

Military aircraft drive US goods orders higher in June

Military aircraft
  • New orders for defense aircraft and parts surged 80.6 percent in June.
  • Excluding the volatile transportation segment, new orders still gained 0.3 percent.
  • The increase points to solid demand even as US inflation rages at a 40-year high.

An eye-popping surge in new orders for US military aircraft in June drove a surprise increase in demand for big-ticket manufactured goods, according to government data released Wednesday.

New orders for defense aircraft and parts surged 80.6 percent compared to May, pushing the total for all durable goods up 1.9 percent in the month to $272.6 billion, the Commerce Department reported.

Economists were projecting a 0.5 percent drop in the key data point that feeds into quarterly economic growth calculations.

Orders have increased in eight of the past nine months, and even excluding the volatile transportation segment, new orders still gained 0.3 percent.

The increase points to solid demand even as US inflation rages at a 40-year high, but economists warn uncertainty caused by the war in Ukraine may cool business investment plans, which could tamp down orders in coming months.

The US Federal Reserve is on an aggressive campaign to raise interest rates and to cool the economy and douse inflation fires — with another hike expected later Wednesday.

Even as borrowing costs rise, firms and households still have plenty of cash and pent up demand, in part due to supply snarls throughout the recovery from the pandemic downturn.

Gregory Daco, chief economist at EY Parthenon, called it “very encouraging news from the business side,” saying “orders were still growing strongly” for goods outside the defense aircraft sector.

While civilian aircraft declined in the month, orders for vehicles and parts gained 1.5 percent.

Ian Shepherson of Pantheon Macroeconomics said he expects the volatile numbers to slow in coming months.

“The surge in the headline does not change the bigger picture of a slowdown in spending, but it has not reached recession-type proportions,” he said in an analysis.

Government to sell UAE $2 billion stake in 5 energy companies

Government to sell energy stakes
  • The Federal Cabinet has approved the sale of shares in OGDCL and two other oil and gas businesses to close a funding gap.
  • The government also intends to sell the Balloki Power Plant and Haveli Bahadur Shah Power Plant to the UAE on a G2G basis.
  • National Assembly (NA) session is now underway and an ordinance cannot be issued during that time.

According to sources, the Federal Cabinet has given the go-ahead to sell its holdings in five energy companies to the UAE for $2 billion on a government-to-government (G2G) basis.

Oil & Gas Development Company (OGDCL), Balloki Power Plant, Haveli Bahadur Shah Power Plant, and two further oil and gas enterprises are among these businesses.

According to sources, the Federal Cabinet approved the sale of shares in OGDCL and two other oil and gas businesses today in order to close a funding gap.

There was some debate over whether the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had requested that the nation fill the deficit; however, Miftah Ismail has stated that the IMF never made such a request.

The funds were only being set up by the government to cover its external financing need.

According to sources, the government also intends to sell the Balloki Power Plant and the Haveli Bahadur Shah Power Plant to the UAE on a G2G basis in addition to the shares.

At a news briefing in Islamabad, Miftah Ismail had already disclosed the sale of both plants, but he had kept the identity of the buyer a secret. Similar to yesterday, Miftah mentioned the government’s plans to sell both plants during a lecture today without disclosing the plants’ worth or the nation’s name.

According to sources, the total capital required to build both plants would be $2 billion when business shares are sold.

It should be emphasized that the government has not yet released an ordinance in this matter because the National Assembly (NA) session is now underway and an ordinance cannot be issued during that time.

However, according to insiders, the ordinance won’t likely be passed until after the NA session is over.

It is anticipated that the G2G ordinance may be exempt from five separate regulations. This comprises the laws governing the stock market, privatization, the Companies Act, the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA), and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).

Cabinet postpones SBP Governor’s appointment

Faysal Bank
  • The summary submitted by the Finance Division for the selection of the new Governor of the SBP was tabled by the federal cabinet.
  • Instead of acting on the summary, the cabinet chose to create a six-person committee to examine the shortlisted candidates.
  • Murtaza Syed, the senior-most deputy governor of the central bank, was appointed interim governor after Dr. Reza Baqir’s death.

The summary submitted by the Finance Division for the selection of the new Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) was tabled by the federal cabinet on Wednesday.

Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, presided over the federal cabinet meeting.

Instead of acting on the summary provided by the Finance Division, the cabinet chose to create a six-person committee to examine the shortlisted candidates.

For the selection of a new State Bank of Pakistan Governor, the Ministry of Finance had sent the Prime Minister’s Secretariat six candidates (SBP).

The names included former IMF official Aasim M. Husain, DMG officer Dr. Saeed Ahmed, Bank of Punjab (BoP) President Zafar Masood, SBP Acting Governor Dr. Murtaza Syed, former SBP Deputy Governor Muhammad Jameel, and former SBP Governor Muhammad Ashraf Khan.

It is important to note that Dr. Murtaza Syed, the senior-most deputy governor of the central bank, was appointed interim governor when Dr. Reza Baqir’s three-year term, which expired on May 4, came to an end.

Toyota, Suzuki to curtail production in Pakistan

Toyota Suzuki to curtail production
  • Toyota and Suzuki intend to shut down portions of their plants next month.
  • Lack of raw materials due to import restrictions and fluctuating exchange rates.
  • Less than two months’ worth of imports may be covered by the $9.3 billion in reserves held by the central bank.

Toyota and Suzuki, Pakistan’s two largest automakers, intend to shut down portions of their plants next month due to a lack of raw materials due to import restrictions and fluctuating exchange rates, officials at both businesses said on Wednesday.

Since the rupee has lost almost 20% of its value this year as a result of declining foreign reserves, a weakening currency, and a growing current account deficit, the government has tried to reduce imports.

Industries that rely on imports to complete finished items claim the central bank’s action has delayed the clearing of letters of credit, causing banks to run out of dollars and limiting their capacity to import raw materials.

According to Ali Asghar Jamali, CEO of Indus Motor Company Ltd, which assembles Toyota vehicles in Pakistan, “there will be 10 working days next month, but only if the central bank permits us to create a letter of credit based on the quota they promised.”

Due to the lack of dollars in the country, he claimed that the company was issuing refunds to customers who had experienced delays and markups on their payments.

Deliveries were also expected to be delayed by at least three months.

Less than two months’ worth of imports may be covered by the $9.3 billion in reserves held by the central bank.

Due to record-high imports, the current account deficit for the most recent fiscal year reached 5% of GDP.

The attitude was shared by Pak Suzuki, which assembles Suzuki automobiles locally and cited the central bank’s new system for prior approval for imports.

Shafiq A. Shaikh, the head of public relations at Pak Suzuki Motors, stated that restrictions had a negative influence on the clearance of import consignments from ports.

He stated that a plant closure in August could occur due to a lack of materials.

Shaikh warned that if the current trend continues, there will be serious issues starting in August 2022.

Requests for comments were not answered by the State Bank of Pakistan.

According to data from the Pakistan Automotive Manufactures Association, the sale of locally produced cars in Pakistan increased by about 50% between July 2021 and May 2022 compared to the same time the previous year.

Twitter to make shareholders vote on Elon Musk accession

Twitter Elon Musk
  • Twitter shareholders will vote on September 13 on whether to approve the $44 billion acquisition of the company by Tesla.
  • The company is in a legal dispute with the CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, over the deal.
  • The case will be tried for five days in October, a judge’s decision from last week.

Despite the company’s ongoing legal dispute with the multibillionaire CEO of Tesla over the deal, Elon Musk, Twitter has set a date for its shareholders to vote on whether to approve the $44 billion acquisition.

According to a regulatory filing, the business informed shareholders in a letter delivered on Tuesday that a virtual special meeting will be held on September 13 to vote on the merger deal.

The announcement comes as Twitter (TWTR) and Musk’s legal battle against the acquisition heats up.

Earlier this month, Musk tried to cancel his agreement to purchase Twitter, alleging that the firm had broken the terms of the agreement by making false assertions about the number of bot accounts using its network and withholding information that would have allowed him to assess the problem.

Days later, Twitter sued the businessman, requesting that the judge order him to carry out the agreement. The case will be tried for five days in October, according to a judge’s decision from last week.

Aside from the Musk lawsuit, one of the few remaining formal processes required to complete the purchase is the shareholder vote.

The board of Twitter has unanimously advised shareholders to approve the deal. Additionally, if shareholders approve the deal, Twitter may have more negotiating power in its legal battle with Musk.

A 38 percent premium above the stock price the day before Musk declared in April that he had become one of Twitter’s largest shareholders was stipulated in the acquisition deal, which stipulated that Musk would pay $54.20 for each share of Twitter that was still in circulation.

According to a statement from the board of Twitter, the company is “committed to finalizing the merger on the price and terms agreed upon with Mr. Musk.”

Vivo V23 Price in Pakistan & Specs

Vivo V23 Price in Pakistan

According to reports, Apple served as Vivo’s design influence for the V23. The smartphone does indeed have flat edges like the iPhone 13. The V23 Pro has a more conventionally rounded appearance.

But the cellphones stand out, particularly in terms of their color. The V23 and V23 Pro’s Sunshine Gold color, can shift from gold to blue-green when exposed to sunlight.

This is made possible by a unique coating on smartphones called Fluorite AG, which after some time causes the color to shift. A Stardust Black version of the V23 and V23 Pro is also available.
